Receipts
Upload and manage receipt images for your expenses.
Good record-keeping is essential for tax deductions. If you ever get audited, receipts are what back up your expense claims. ReliefBooks lets you attach receipt images directly to your expenses so everything lives in one place.
Uploading a receipt
- Go to the Expenses page and click on an expense (or create a new one with Add Expense).
- In the expense detail view, click the receipt upload area.
- Select an image from your device -- a photo taken with your phone or a scanned document both work.
- The receipt attaches to that expense automatically.
You can upload a receipt when you first create an expense or come back and add one later.
Supported formats
ReliefBooks accepts common image formats and documents:
- JPEG and PNG -- Photos from your phone camera or screenshots.
- PDF -- Scanned documents or digital receipts you received by email.
Viewing receipts
Click on any expense that has a receipt attached. You'll see a thumbnail of the receipt in the expense detail view. From there you can:
- View the full-size image for a closer look.
- Download the file to save a copy on your device.
Replacing a receipt
If you uploaded the wrong image or have a better copy:
- Open the expense detail view.
- Remove the current receipt.
- Upload the correct file.
Best practices
A few habits that make tax time much easier:
- Snap a photo immediately. Paper receipts fade over time. Take a picture as soon as you get one and upload it to the matching expense in ReliefBooks.
- Categorize as you go. When you upload a receipt, make sure the expense has the right category and details filled in. It takes a few seconds now but saves hours of sorting later.
- Don't wait until tax time. Uploading receipts in bulk is tedious and error-prone. Attach them to expenses throughout the year so your records stay complete and accurate.
- Keep digital receipts too. If you get a receipt by email (for online purchases, subscriptions, etc.), save the PDF and upload it the same way you would a paper receipt.
