Unbilled Shifts
Find completed shifts that haven't been invoiced yet.
After you work a shift and the date passes, that shift becomes "unbilled" -- it represents completed work that you haven't invoiced yet. The Unbilled Shifts page helps you keep track of this work so nothing falls through the cracks.
What are unbilled shifts
Unbilled shifts are shifts where:
- The scheduled date has already passed (the work is done).
- The shift has not been added to any invoice yet.
In other words, these are shifts you've completed but haven't billed for. They represent money you've earned but haven't collected.
Accessing unbilled shifts
You can find your unbilled shifts in two places:
- Schedule section -- Navigate to the Unbilled Shifts tab within the Schedule area to see a full list.
- Dashboard -- Your Dashboard shows a summary of your unbilled shifts, including the total unbilled amount across all facilities.
Filtering unbilled shifts
The unbilled shifts list can be filtered to help you find exactly what you're looking for:
- By facility -- Show only unbilled shifts for a specific facility. Useful when you're preparing an invoice for one location.
- By agency/booking source -- Filter by how the shift was booked, which is helpful if different agencies require separate invoices.
- By date range -- Narrow down to a specific time period (e.g., "last month" or "January 2026").
Creating an invoice from unbilled shifts
This is where unbilled shifts really shine. Instead of building an invoice from scratch, you can turn your completed shifts into an invoice in just a few steps:
- Go to the Unbilled Shifts page.
- Select one or more shifts using the checkboxes. You'll typically select all unbilled shifts for a single facility or agency.
- Click Create Invoice.
- ReliefBooks generates a draft invoice with a line item for each selected shift. The billing rate is pulled from the rate card assigned to each shift.
- Review the draft, make any adjustments, and finalize the invoice.
For the complete invoicing workflow, see Creating Invoices.
Why it matters
As a relief professional, it's easy to let shifts pile up without invoicing -- especially when you're busy working across multiple facilities. Unbilled shifts give you a clear picture of what's outstanding so you can:
- Stay on top of your billing. Invoice promptly and consistently instead of scrambling at the end of the month.
- Avoid leaving money on the table. Every unbilled shift is revenue you've earned. The longer you wait, the easier it is to forget a shift or lose track of details.
- Spot patterns. If you notice unbilled shifts piling up for a particular facility, it might be a sign to adjust your invoicing cadence.
Make it a habit to check your unbilled shifts at least once a week. Your Dashboard also displays a running total of your unbilled amount, giving you a quick at-a-glance reminder every time you log in.
